First time road legal in two years. Took a while to get her to start, but finally fired up. Went for a little cruise to air the tires up, and wash the first layer of dirt off. The rear-view mirror fell off driving down the road, probably due to sitting outside for a year. I kept it running while at the car wash just in case it died, but it died mid-wash anyways and didn’t want to start again. I had to call the neighbor to give me a jump. It started up fine the next day, then was completely dead later on. I replaced the battery, so far - so good.

The to-do list is pretty long. Just to get it road worthy, I need to:

Fix the brakes (pulls hard to the right when trying to stop) Left caliper was stuck, has been replaced.

New shocks/struts - ordered, should be delivered by the time I get home from work.

Fix the steering (it tends to wander about), wearing the inner edge of the front tires.

Then the non-safety related list:

Tune the 5.0 (get the most I can out of it while I save up for an LS swap)

New door locks

Fix driver side interior door handle.

Sub-frame connectors

Fix the short in the stereo.

New rear spoiler

New window motors (slow as molasses)

Weatherstripping for driver side door.

Redo the front seats

New hatch struts, adjust the hatch motor.

Down the road:

LS swap

New paint.

My goal is for it to be my summer DD, occasional test and tune drag runs at Gateway, and maybe some autocross.

I am seriously jealous right now. I loved these cars back in the day.

I bought this one back in ‘94 when I was 18. I drove it for a couple years, the garaged it and went off to college. 4 years ago, my parents told me to get it out of their garage.

I seriously considered dating a girl who got a blue T/A for graduation. After she let me drive it one Saturday afternoon, I decided that the car was great, but the girl was too high maintenance and there were too many wannabes hanging around her in hopes of landing a big date.

Boy was that car fun.

I want to try one of these someday. Two words: Knight Rider . I’m sure you hear that all the time.

Ooh, I like. I had a black ‘89 FBF with a 5 speed and the 5 liter for a few years. It was a fun car. The biggest drawback was the seats. I felt like I was gonna slide off in the corners. Sent it to Estonia to my cousin when I was done with it, who promptly sold it to a collector in Finland. A good place for a car that served me well for a few years and my dad for a few decades before me.

One piece of advice I can give you, is do not under any circumstances to a burnout in reverse. Spent entirely too much money fixing the tranny after that. Oh, and be really careful with who you allow to close the trunk. People have a tendency to try to slam it closed. Had to fix the plastic parts of the latch more than once.

I know all about the dreaded hatch disease. It’s been slammed a couple of times, even when I’ve told people not too. I’ve replaced the plastic gear once and may have to do it again. It doesn’t want to go all the way down.
